Why I Write

When I learn something, I want to share it. Writing is a way to connect with people, and to help people. I always hope for a response from people who read my writing, but part of the magic of having written something is not knowing who has read it or how it affected them.

I write technical documentation to help people accomplish their goals. I’ve been a tech writer since I got my first piece published in a computer magazine as a kid. I like to learn difficult things and make them easier for people to understand.

Blog posts help me organize my thoughts. Sometimes they provide the raw materials for books, or conference talks. Writing a blog post lets me explore and learn, even when I’m writing about something I think I know well.
