Uh-oh. The explanation we got some thirty-odd years ago was that "sometimes he gets the letters wrong." I think that, as a teacher, if you see an opening into the mind of a student, you go for it.

Well, to be fair, this was in the context of a conversation with a less definite outcome. Her position was that she wants to focus on printing in first grade, even though there may be a group of students interested in cursive; my position was that in a school with so much parent participation, it should be possible to put together a study group. The outcome: she's going to think about it and get back to me. I'd be willing to teach cursive to a group of kids, since I'm going to be there anyway.

Oh...and as to the "opening into the mind" comment... I agree. If someone is recalcitrant about reading when pressed, and claims to be tired when asked to write, but is enthusiastic about cursive...then cursive is such an obvious tool to use to help the reading and writing overall. I mean, jeez.

She is lazy for not wanting to teach cursive, that's a funny-ass statement because it's just absolutely nuts for anyone, especially a teacher who is apparently communist, it's just so your brain-turns-inside-out ridiculous, I intensely dislike her.

"I'll think about it...and get back to you". Hard words to hear. It makes the tears well up inside. It can also just fill me with rejection because I know that it's just not gonna happen. It can also mean that there is incredible hope and I should feel happy. So really, that particular statement nobody is talking about but me, gives me a complex!

Well, don't worry. She can think about it and get back to me, but I have an army on my side :) And actually things will work out either way.
